It is early days for our site. It is our goal to build a vast collecting community where we can admire each other’s treasures and buy and sell amongst each other, free from excessive charges that are applied by third parties on our hobby. It’s not unknown for some auction houses to charge as much as 25% of the sale price and for that charge to be applied to both buyer and seller; that’s 50% of the hammer price of the entire sale and is our money they are taking! Then of course, the taxman gets his share as well. An item leaves one collector’s hands in to another collector’s hands and lots of money is taken in the process. It’s money that could be better spent on our hobby. Let us bring seller and buyer together without the third parties* here at this site.
However, software to do this, hosting costs to store your collection, advertising to build the community, plus our time to run this site, costs money. Hence why we must charge for increased functionality and capacity on the site. We think the services we offer, compared to the price charged, represents exceptional value-for-money and is a tiny fraction of most collector’s annual budgets; indeed, only a tiny fraction of buying and selling fees at other sites and auction houses, so please if you can, then expand your usage of our site and contribute to its upkeep.
